Question Do Hamster's Nails Need to be Trimmed?

Hello! I'm sorry if this is not in the right place, but I thought it was. Anyway, do hamster's nails need to be trimmed? I've noticed my hammy's nails are getting a little long, but do they need to be trimmed, or do you just let them grow? Thank you!

You don't have to trim them, but if they are getting a little bit long you could try putting some rocks/stones in your hamster cage. Just make sure you sterilise them first. Or if you have a hard tile floor in your home you could also let them walk across that when/if you let them free roam. Works perfectly on my hamsters.

Okay, thank you! I do not let my hamster free roam (even though she wants to - she just CRAVES time out of her cage) because she is so fast and she hates being held so I'm afraid she'll get lost. I love her so much and we have two cats so that wouldn't end very well if she got out....

Some hamsters, particularly Winter Whites and Campbells seem to need their nails trimming moreso than Syrians. If they did need doing and you were a little bit worried on how to do it, most vets are able to trim them for you or show you how best to trim them yourself.
