Default Weight

Hi

Yesterday I had a friend over who though Theodore was kind of chubby. He's a big-box store Russian Hybrid (I didn't know better at the time) who is now about 11 months old. For the past five months I've weighed him the first Saturday of the month and he's never been less than 38g and heavier than 40g. 40g seems to be his normal weight. Is this too heavy for a hybrid?

Thanks

Rob and Theodore

40g is a normal weight, hybrids can vary a lot some will be less than that while others might reach 60g. Wouldn’t focus too much on the weight itself as long as he looks in proportion for his body type & is healthy I wouldn’t worry.

Thank-you mangoandmimi. Yes he appears to be healthy and is a happy little fellow so I won't worry then. On another note I found a reputable Robo Breeder in Toronto and I'm to have one in the fall. I can only hope that he's half as cute as Choco!

40g is fine! As M&M said, hybrids vary a lot in weight and body shape. My smallest hybrid (stephy) was 37g and my largest (franny) was 68g and almost double stephy’s size! Some will also seem quite chubby even though they have a good diet, this is usually due to Winter White genes. Campbells and some hybrids will look a lot slimmer in comparison. All 3 of my current hybrids have totally different body shapes and sizes

Thanks alpacassei. I feel better about it now. He must have more winter white than campbells in him because he's a round little ball.

Russian hybrids weight can vary considerably from one another depending upon their genetic makeup - so their isn’t a perfect weight. Although 40g sound a good weight - so I wouldn’t be concerned

My previous hybrid weighed 42g whereas my current boy weighs a whopping 72g but he isn’t fat just a large built Russian hybrid.
