Unblocked Scent Glands
Hi, I recently noticed my hamster's scent was not as normal as it should have been, I tried to get pictures but none of them shown but i found one on this site that looks similar to mine. Does this go away or do I have to take him to the vet? received_10154495813371040.jpg:Not Mine
Thank you for reading

Re: Unblocked Scent Glands
Because their scent glnds are on their tummies, they’re more likely to get blocked or infected Gently clean his scent gland with warm saline solution and a cotton bud. Hopefully it’s just a little blocked up and that will help clear it (you should be able to find some posts on here about cleaning dwarf scent glands if you do a quick google). If there’s any swelling, redness, it feels excessively warm, or it just doesn’t clear up after a few days, then take him to the vets in case he needs antibiotics or for the vet to unblock it.
You can make saline by mixing 1/2 a teaspoon salt in a cup of boiled water and leave it to cool before applying.

Re: Unblocked Scent Glands
I have not seen something like this before. I would take your hammy to the vet.

Re: Unblocked Scent Glands
It's not uncommon, something to include in health checks, if you spot any changes early just wiping will saline will usually do the trick unless it becomes infected then antibiotics will be needed.
