Default Whats wrong with my hamster? Please help

My hamster has a smelly fluid coming from his mouth. When he breaths i can hear a clicking noise. I rubbed his back and he sounds a bit better. This has come on all of a sudden hes been fine in himself up until now. Does anyone know whats wrong with him? I am taking him to the vet tomorrow. Is there anything i can do? Thanks

Hi everyone the vet thinks my hamster inhaled his sick. The smelly fluid coming out of his mouth was sick. This obstructed his airway and that is why he seemed like he was struggling to breath and why i could hear a clicking noise when he was breathing. I think rubbing his back helped. This can be serious it can cause inflamation in the lungs and cause pneumonia. Even if your hamster seems fine after this does have complications. Please take your hammy to the vet. The vet prescribed Bear antibiotics for 7 days. My hammy seems to be back to his usual self. I will continue to monitor him for 7 days. I've had a few hamsters but i've never come accross this before. I hope this will help others.

It can’t have been sick as hamsters don’t have the ability to even be sick - I suppose none of the vets knew this. In the future do try and get to either an exotics vet or at least a vet with experience with hamsters.

I’m wondering if it is an abcess or something that has burst? it could be in the mouth or the cheek pouches or even the teeth. Those could explain the liquid & smell.
