Default Natural Deodorant for Hamster

So I have a stinky female hamster. Her fur sometimes smells really bad. I took her outside and got the idea to rub fresh mint on her fur to reduce her smell. It worked amazingly (she smells like bubblegum) and pretty much killed the smell. Is this a safe deodorant I can use on her when she's having those stinky days?

Please don't put anything on your hamster fur, hamsters need to have their own scent on them & not be overwhelmed by other smells.
I haven't tried it but apparently if you put a dish of bicarb of soda close to (not in!) the cage this can really help absorb any smells.

Hamsters have an incredible sense of smell so can you imagine how strong that smell will be to her? Don't use anything like that on hamsters as it is stressful to them. The female scent can attract males from miles away and some humans are more sensitive to it than others.
If it changes to a foul smelling discharge or a bloated tummy then you need to see a vet.

Like both cypher and souffle you shouldn’t be putting anything strongly scented onto your hamsters fur (even natural things like mint) - it can be very overpowering from her with her amazing sense of smell plus hamsters use their sense of smell to help navigate so it will be disorientating too. Also don’t spray any air freshers or fragrance in the same room as her either - most can lead to respiratory issues.

I completely understand that female hamsters do smell bad (all my 10 hamsters have been girls) but you just have to allow them to smell. It may be difficult for you to put up with the aroma now but with time I have gotten completely accustomed to the smell.

Thank you guys for the input, I will not be doing that again. I actually found an (orderless) order absorber and it helps to reduce the smell a lot.

One thing that can help is one of those little air purifiers Removes odours from the room. They do help - I remember seeing cigarette smoke being sucked into one and disappearing. As they others say, rubbing something in her fur isn't good for her and herbs like mint are very pungent. The air purifier may not help her fur smell the days she's on heat but it should remove the odour from the air in the room. Does she have a sand bath? I'd be very careful if leaving bicarbonate of soda nearby in case she escaped and ate some as it could kill her. So if you did try that it would need to be well out of access and checking the cage is very secure. One of the less expensive air purifiers for odour removal (they have charcoal filters) - some are very expensive as they remove a lot more (eg tiny mould spores). Don't get one that is also an ioniser though - they're supposed to be bad for you!
