Fur loss itch emergency
Hi so I've just got back from a holiday during which my parents have been feeding my male Syrian hamster. Before I left I thought his fur looked a little patchy tho there wasn't much I could do about it then. I got back today and have noticed him itching a lot. His fur is a little thinner on his head too. I will be going away again on Saturday and the neighbors will be looking after him as of tomorrow night so I'm a bit stressed about what can be done. Should I give him a thourgh clean out tonight or wait till after visiting or contacting the vets tomorrow? Are you aware of any treatment he may receive? I don't know what I can do in so little time and I'm going to be leaving him (potentially mite infested) with people who, tho they looked after him well last time, aren't experienced with hamsters. Please help if you have any advice! Thank you!

Re: Fur loss itch emergency
It does sound as though he may have a mite problem but you really need to have him checked out by the vet, can you not get an appointment to have him seen before you go away again?
Cleaning out is going to stress him out & may just make things worse so I wouldn't do too much cleaning just now.

Re: Fur loss itch emergency
Thank you for your reply, I was able to see a vet today who gave me spot on to deal with the mites so obviously still an ongoing issue but I'm not so stressed about it now it's being delt with. Hope you're enjoying the summer!

Re: Fur loss itch emergency
That's good, fingers crossed the treatment will do the trick & he'll be better soon.
