Hiya!
As many Brits are aware, the U.K is in the middle of a massive heatwave, with temperatures in the late 20s and possibly early 30s. I live in Wales and it’s around 26 degrees today, with forecasts predicting it going hotter (around 27-29 degrees) in the next few days to a week.
I’ve never had to deal with such hot weather to be honest. I’m more prepared to deal with the total opposite really. I’m asking the question to anyone who lives in hot climates or knows any tips for keeping your hamsters cool in hot weather.
I’m unable to keep the fan on all day for safety reasons, though it would be my first choice. I left the windows open today in hopes of some breeze flowing into the room. My hamster in fully secluded and out of sunlight, so there’s no worries there. I have heard of putting frozen bottles or ice packs covered in towels in the cage, but Puff is a chewer and I can’t see that going well
Any other tips?
I regularly refill her water with refrigerated water, and have gotten into the habit of putting her food in the freezer for a bit before serving.
Thank you!
P.S. She doesn’t seem to show any effects of the heat so far, just as hyper and active as usual
