Emergency - now sad news
Hamster is laying on his side gasping, lethargic. He wont move much. I think hes going to pass. Our ER vet doesnt work on hamsters. So we have nowhere to go?
What do we do?

Re: Emergency
He just passed in my fiance's hands.
We found him in our house a few days ago and did all we could. I feel like we failed. I think he had a bad respiratory infection. I dont know what more we could of done.

Re: Emergency
I'm so sorry, you did your best for him & there's no way of knowing what may have happened to him before you found him, it's very sad but take comfort knowing he felt so well cared for once you found him.

Re: Emergency
I had checked on him earlier and he was outside his little hut, so I thought he was okay just exploring. When I checked again a few hours later he still hadnt moved. Heclooked like he was gasping for air so we attempted a hemleich by rubbing his belly. But soon after that he had a small seizure and passed. Ive never cried so much in years.

Re: Emergency
Oh no!!!! I am so sorry to hear that Harold/Hera had passed to the bridge. You gave your little one all of the love and care during the short time that he/she was with you and your fiance; I am sure you made his/her life truly special and he/she would have felt all of your love. You did all that you could, and your unconditional care for this little orphaned ham was a true blessing and gift that I'm sure he/she had appreciated thoroughly. Find peace in the knowledge that you made a huge difference in the life of one so small and vulnerable, and you were both heroes to your little fluff ball. My heart goes out to you both, and I am sending huge hugs. We are all here for you both.
RIP, darling Harold/Hera! You are gone but never forgotten. You will forever live on in the memories of the two wonderful people who gave you a loving home when you needed it most, and your tiny paw prints will be in their hearts always. Have grand adventures at the bridge and please send a sweet rainbow message to let them know you have arrived safely at the Rainbow Bridge.

Re: Emergency
It must have come as a shock when he seemed to be doing so well, but he may well have inhaled dust & other debris that could have damaged his lungs or he could have had some internal injury & there would have been no way of knowing & nothing more you could have done.
They win our hearts so totally I'm sure he will be missed & losing him is very sad.

Re: Emergency
Thank you for the kind words. Its only been a few days and it totally had broken my heart, but ill try and find comfort. If we go down the path of getting another Hamster ill certainly be back.
Thank you for all the help and support in what had been an emotional rollercoaster, we buried him outside in the rose garden.
Much love,
Dominic & Erica RIP Harold/Hera

Re: Emergency
Harold/Hera's final resting place in the rose garden sounds lovely.
I totally understand how devastatingly tragic it is to have a beloved, little ham come into your life and a few days later have your heart crushed because an unexplained health condition took him away to the bridge. Take time to heal your broken heart and know that we are there for you both regardless of whether or not you choose to bring another ham into your life. I do hope that you will one day decide to open your hearts to one very lucky ham though, since it is so evident that you both have so much love and compassion to give. Take care.

Re: Emergency
Oh no I am so very sorry for your loss. He may well have eaten something when out or breathed in something. Being so young and without a mum would also have taken it's toll. You did everything you possibly could for him and tried your best. Nobody could have done more.
He died much loved and cared for and he will have known this as he flew free.
Run free at the bridge little one x

Re: Emergency
Oh
I am soooo sorry for your loss. Pet death is always incredibly hard, even if you havent had them for very long. I am sending you so many hugs but know that you provided Harold/Hera with a loving home when he/she needed it most.
Have fun and run free and the bridge sweet one!
