Worried about my dwarf hybrid
My rescue hamster Boris developed a lump in the corner of his right eye. The vet diagnosed conjunctivitis and recommended antibiotic eye drops. We did not use these immediately as he was fine in himself and it did not seem to bother him. We did not want to cause him stress in putting in the eye drops. He then got the same lump in his other eye so we started using the drops. The lumps seemed to get smaller but after a few days his eyes started to look sore and he lost the fur around them. I now wonder if he has a small lump in his cheek under the eye which first developed the eye lump. His eyes have never appeared to weep and have not been crusty. I am really worried and wonder if I should call the emergency vet tomorrow. Any advice would be gratefully received. He is a pale cream colour and in some lights there appears to be a dark patch around this eyes under his fur

Re: Worried about my dwarf hybrid
I would suggest having Boris visit the vet again to make sure he isn't having an allergic reaction to the meds. I am truly sorry that the two of you are going through all of this. I hope that he will have a full and quick recovery. Hugs to you and cuddles to you little furball.

Re: Worried about my dwarf hybrid
They are quite prone to these problems with the eyes & you will need to sometimes give more than one lot of treatment as the symptoms can clear up then return again.
If there is a small lump below the eye then it's possible there's a problem with his pouch or teeth.
I would take him back to the vet for another check, make sure the vet checks his teeth too & then just stick with the treatment, it can take a while.

Re: Worried about my dwarf hybrid
Thank you for your comments. I will take Boris back to the vet and will also get them to look at his teeth. On reflection has has been chewing things a bit more than normal the last few days. As he seems fine in himself I will wait until the vets open on Tuesday to make an appointment. I will keep a close eye on him though and if there is a change before then I will call the emergency vet. Thank you again.
