Hibernating or ill or what?
Betty our hamster is worrying me today.
She is young is, about 4 months. This morning I came down and she was head first out of her house in the cage - looking dead. She has moved a little since (only as far as falling totally out of the cage). She is stiff looking, but breathing occasionally. I am slowly trying to warm her up -nut no progress so far. She doesn't get handled much - due to allergies in the family - so I haven't touched her in cae it stresses her out.
Her room got cold last night - could she be hibernating? Or is it more worrying?
Any advice -please.
THANKS

Re: Hibernating or ill or what?
I would take her to the vet if you can tomorrow. She could be sleeping, so I would keep the heat on in the room she is in and put a hot water bottle adjacent to the cage to try and warm it up or underneath the plastic bottom of the cage (external to the cage though). But the vet would be the next call i think.

Re: Hibernating or ill or what?
totally agree with Suga, keep trying to warm her up but take her to the vet.
My hamster tryed hibernating, it was so scarey, but he was limp and slowy came round once he was warm enough.

Re: Hibernating or ill or what?
Alas poor Betty didn't make it. By 12.00 she was cold, stiff and not breathing or twitching. Very dead. Not sure what the cause was, but my son has now replaced Betty with Harry. A black and white Syrian - who doesn't use his wheel yet!
