Unhappy Now crumpet has died

I joined here when my hamster of 4 days, who i adopted from Rhydowen Rescue died of an open pyometra. She was 10 months.

a week later i adopted Crumpet, a young female from Pets At Home adoption centre, she had been dumped in a public toilet.

She died after 3 weeks from a closed Pyometra. She had a course of antibiotics but as soon as they stopped she died.

I am gutted, i feel like i shouldnt get another as i have such bad luck with them But i miss Crumps so much already, its been a week since she died.

I am Sorry, but you did do everything you could. Definately think you should continue to rescue when the time is right.

For the short time they were with you they knew what love and care was, which is more than some animals get in a life time

I think you should get one again, like louise 81 said, some animals have a full unhappy life - whereas they had a short happy life

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. There is nothing you can do to save a hamster with pyometra. Unless they have a removal of the womb before the disease is too far advanced they never, in our experience, survive. You gave them you best for the short lives they lived and they had some time of warmth, love and care.
Pyometra is by far the most common killer of female hamsters and affects young and old alike.
I hope you will be able to find a space in your life for a new little one in need when the time is right and this time maybe try and find a little boy who needs a home as at least you would avoid the heartbreak of pyo with a male.

There are five syrians for adoption at the RSPCA Ashley Heath Animal Centre 9 miles from Bournemouth. They look lovely. Maybe you could have a look there

You are also not far from Bourne Valley Hamsters who are a fab breeder of all types. Sue and Mark can be contacted through the Midland Hamster Club as Sue is secretary.
