Infected wound post surgery?
Hello everyone.
I’m a little worried about my 10month old Winter White dwarf Hamster, Dave. He’s had a bit of a hard time recently, having gone through surgery on his scent gland in his tummy to remove a tumour. He is now 6 days post surgery and in terms of himself has recovered beautifully, is very active and eating well!
However upon giving him his medicine today and checking the wound it appears to have a small infection (pus) near the top end. I’m a little concerned by this as he is on Bayril antibiotics and has been since a week before the op (to clear up the abscess infection before surgery- which worked very well). Is it possible that the antibiotics aren’t working? If so what can be done? I’m concerned ☹️
I will be calling the vets tomorrow for advice big I just wondered if anyone had any experience of this after surgery?
Thanks so much. Xx

Re: Infected wound post surgery?
Personally, I'd keep an eye on it for irritation, tenderness, swelling, or excessive puss. A bit of scabbing is a normal part of healing. If you're very concerned, I'd phone your vet ASAP. However, it sounds fairly normal to me

Re: Infected wound post surgery?
Thanks so much.
I’ve called the vets and he wants to see him tomorrow just to be sure so that’s good really as he was meant to be in for a check Friday so they have just brought it forward. It doesn’t look too sore to be fair or swollen as far I can tell. Hopefully its just a normal part of healing!
Thanks for your reassuring reply! Xx
