Exclamation Emergency please reply ASAP!!!!!

Today after playing with my hamster I kept it in it's cage and forgot to close it. My hammy escaped and my mom and I were searching for it. When we found it behind the door a wooden (not so heavy) pad fell on it. We freaked out and immediately picked up the pad. It got scared and ran to a corner and froze. I just looked at it for a moment. Then I slowly picked it up and kept it in a open place and looked at it's behavior. It suddenly stood on two legs and opened it's jaw as thought trying to attack. Then suddenly it did a back flip! We got so scared. It came to my hands and was normal and walking on my hands. When I let it in the cage it again did the attacking move. Please reply what should I do!

You need to keep him very quiet and calm for a while. Put him in a dark room with no noise and leave him to calm. Have food and water available. Check after 3 hrs. If your hamster appears worse then you need to see a vet and have him checked over. Try and keep him quiet and calm for a good while now to settle as he has had a bad fright. You have been luck and you must ensure you secure the cage everytime now.

Hopefully it is just fright and shock and your hammy is not injured. Is it a he or a she? Your hammy may avoid you for a few days so just leave him or her to settle in the cage again for a few days, assuming normal behaviour comes back (coming out and doing normal things in the cage). He or she may well be hiding away a bit if scared. Try putting a treat outside the house door today and see if it gets taken. But also try not to disturb him or her.

It sounds like a normal defence reaction or stress reaction. Anything falling on them will scare them a lot. What kind of wood pad was it?

I thank everyone for their help. My hamster is normal now. He just walks on my hands as usual. This hamster is a new one. His name is Napoleon. He is a pure white Syrian with red eyes (looks exactly like Victoria Rachel's coconut). Some of you would have seen a post of me buying my hamster Fred a few months ago. I used to leave him free every night in my very small balcony. There used to be nothing on the floor except his open cage. But there was a water outlet tube which I closed with a net. One day he took the net off and and went inside the tube. He would have fell the other side and would have not survived the fall cuz my home is present in the first floor of my apartment. I was very depressed and didn't say about his death in this forum. A few months later I bought Napoleon. I made a new cage with floorspace of 500+ square inch and it resembles iodine's cage (Erin's animals) l. I didn't have the presence of mind to post about it in the forum. I am so sorry! In a few hours I will post pictures of Napoleon. Thank u once again guys!

That is excellent news Napoleon is better now He sounds very handsome - photos please! Very sorry you lost Fred - that is very sad.

Yes it's important to block off escape routes etc with free roaming. I think it would be impossible in our house, so I have a large playpen instead. That might be an idea to think about if you can make a playpen area?

So pleased Napoleon is back to his usual self Nimal, giving him that time to recover has done him good. Not only did you get a fright but he did too and will be glad to be back in his cage where he's safe.
