Default Urine Infection

Hi everyone, me again! Well if youve read my few previous posts, i adopted Soo 10 months from Rydowen Rescue, she died of an open Pyometra four days after I got her.

Then i adopted Crumpet, 9 weeks old, who was abandoned in a public toilet. Had her 6 days, and then she started acting funny too. Instant panic mode! Turns out my new little girl has a urine infection. When i saw the mucky bum i instantly panicked, as i thought oh no, another pyo

But, its very different, Soo was chalky and smelly, and Crumpet smells strongly of urine and the wet is clear.

So off i pop her to the vets who say she has a Urine Infection. she is on 0.9mls of Baytril once a day, and i am trying to keep her hydrated. She sleeps all day and night at the moment as shes feeling unwell but i wake her up and put her infront of her bottle and she will drink before nibbling and going back to bed.

Anyone have any extra tips to get her back into shape again? Any good foods or remedies?

Vibes for my little Crumps please!

Sorry to hear Crumpet is ill.
0.9ml is a huge dose for a hamster. Are you sure it is not 0.1ml? Normally this is what it is. Did they say to put that in water or to give it by syringe? It is best given by syringe as it means they get the whole dose. Sometimes they will not drink the water as baytril tastes horrid.
You can syringe feed her a little cranberry juice diluted in water as this can help. Also add some probiotics to her food like Avipro or ProC to help her bowel work properly.
The sleeping a lot means she is very uncomfortable. Is she passing urine? They can get bladder crystals and if these block the urethra this needs immediate attention or the bladder can rupture.
Healing vibes coming her way.

lol im sorry, it is 0.1ml, im so used to writing 0.9ml bcus my rabbit needed medication every day so i do it without realising!

Crumpet is getting better slowly, she has started using her wheel again, and taking interest in attacking her treat sticks etc so shes much more active.

she isnt as wet underneath anymore either so hopefully she is feeling better
