Has your friend thought of formally reporting it? The more people who are unhappy with it, the more chance that SOME DAY this stuff will come off the market for good, or be improved so the injuries it causes will be no longer happening.

Re: Poorly Robo *THE DANGERS OF FLUFFY BEDDING*
A small pack of fluffy bedding came with the cage I bought for my hammie, the girl at the pet store told me however to avoid it because most hamster will have a tendency to chew on it and it can be deadly.
I still have the pack and it does say safe hamsters and I am seriously considering reporting it to the manufacturer because it breaks my heart when people try to make their hamsters' lives better and end up making it worse
Jam's situation has inspired me and I will be fighting against fluffy bedding for the rest of my days!

Re: Poorly Robo *THE DANGERS OF FLUFFY BEDDING*
When I bought a little karlie climbing frame for Rambo.that came with a bag of "fluffy bedding" I couldn't get it in the bin fast enough.
I will admit when I first started out with my first hammy,I did buy a pack of "safe fluffy bedding" as I didnt know as much then, but when i got it out the packet, saw it and thought "sod that" and went out and bought some much more suitable stuff!

I was the same Hammymad, I bought the Wilkonsons pack, got home and thought....no way is that going near my hamster! I used it to make little stuffed toys instead!

That's a great idea! I have an unopened pack of that nasty stuff that I "acquired" from a well meaning friend and I have had no idea what to do with it. There's no way my girls will be getting their paws on it!

Re: Poorly Robo *THE DANGERS OF FLUFFY BEDDING*
Back with some news about the fluffy bedding!
The company I wrote to...wrote back I wasn't expecting such a swift reply but they actually took the time to read what I had to say. They said that they appreciate my concern but no one has complained to them before about the fluffy bedding (duh of course, that's what they all say!) however, they also said that they will look into it (whatever that means for them) and will probably add some warnings on new packaging!
They said that they will not stop selling it but at least they're going to consider warning people! that way whoever is new to raising rodents (like myself) will know if the content of the packaging is safe for their little hammies or no

Perhaps if you find loads of internet resources, like this thread, and either leave the links or copy the information?? I'm not sure if that will do anything....

Re: Poorly Robo *THE DANGERS OF FLUFFY BEDDING*
There are so many, cheap alternatives to fluffy bedding! Hamsters enjoy ripping up tissue or toilet roll (make sure it's unscented and free of any wierd chemicals - e.g. balsam in expensive tissues!) and making their nests.
It's safe, free and gives them something to do! Much better

Re: Poorly Robo *THE DANGERS OF FLUFFY BEDDING*
Cathii I know what you mean, but I honestly doubt that no one has ever complained... I am going to be amazed if they actually change the packaging in order to include warnings. I doubt they care, because there will always be new owners or owners that simply don't know and are not part of a community like this one where we share information about products we use.
