Baby Hamster Eye Scratch/Scar
I know it's a little too early (by a day or two) but one of my baby Syrian's has a scratch or scar right beside his eye (right side vertically). I'm just wondering if anyone has had experience with this, will he/she be blind in this eye?? I'm not sure if one of his siblings did it or his mom, which btw has NOT rejected him/her in any way because of this. I'm just a little worried here.

Re: Baby Hamster Eye Scratch/Scar
It might just be me (my eye sight is rubbish!) but I can't really tell what's going on in that photo.
Is it beside the eye or the eye itself?
Is it a scar, healed up or an open wound? If it isn't healed you will need to keep a watch on it for any signs of infection.
If your ham is blind in one eye it really wouldn't be too much of a problem as they rely much more on scent & sound than sight so don't worry too much about that.

Re: Baby Hamster Eye Scratch/Scar
It could have been mum or other pups. It looks like it's not an open wound, so it should be ok. Keep checking it for signs of infection though, just in case.

Re: Baby Hamster Eye Scratch/Scar
At first I thought it was a birthmark or somethin. But as he/she has gotten bigger it's definitely a scar of some sort I think. Poor thing. It doesn't seem to be an open wound, it isn't red and isn't bleeding. So I'm about 90% sure it's healed. But as the rest of the pups are beginning to open their eyes, this one is a little behind.
Cypher - The rounded horizontal part is the eye itself. The larger vertical part is what I'm talkin about.

Ok, GOOD news!!! As I was trying to pet the rest and gently pick them all up, I noticed this baby hammy had BOTH eyes open!! So yay!! False alarm! (for now)

Re: Baby Hamster Eye Scratch/Scar
That's good to hear.
As it's a scar & healed up it shouldn't be anything to worry about now.

Such a relief to hear baby hammy has opened both eyes and eye is healed.

Re: Baby Hamster Eye Scratch/Scar
I'm glad that your little one's eye is healed and both eyes are open. Btw, I just saw the pics of the pups in "Cuddlesworth Family" thread, and they are SO cute.
