Bumble foot?
I was visiting my local pet store today when I came across this poor guy. He was the only one with a wire wheel. I'm wondering if it's bumble foot or something else? Sorry the picture is a little gross \ blurry he's untamed and it was hard to get a pic.

Re: Bumble foot?
Is it a hamster that you are adopting or have adopted? You'd really want to take them to a vet for a proper diagnosis if you have so you can get appropriate care. Otherwise, unfortunately, it is a matter for that particular pet store.

I'm thinking of adopting it to get him treated.

Re: Bumble foot?
Obviously you can't name the store, as per the forum rules regarding naming and shaming, however most stores should have a policy whereby if you purchase an animal from them that needs vet treatment within the first few days, they are normally liable for the bill so it's something to keep in mind if you are thinking of adopting little hammy

Re: Bumble foot?
It doesn't look to me like bumble foot, usually the abscesses are directly on the paw pads rather than the legs because their legs aren't making contact with the wire. It looks more like a tumor to me however I am not a veterinarian
As Ghostinshow said, a lot of pet stores have a guarantee that if you adopt a pet from them that gets sick or requires vet care in the first few days that you have it the store is liable for the bill. So if you do want to adopt him that is something to keep in mind

Re: Bumble foot?
I have to agree that it doesn't quite look like bumblefoot. Perhaps an abscess or some other similar injury? I won't tell you what to do with this ham, but I know if it were me, I'd take him in and get him treated by a vet. Hope he's okay wherever he does end up

Re: Bumble foot?
Oh poor little guy. I don’t know what it is, but it looks too big for bumblefoot and in the wrong place. Could be a tumour? Well done for taking him if you did and please take him to the let and let us know how he does.

Re: Bumble foot?
Thank you for all your feedback. I have spoken with the manager at the store (since it was the employee I talked to at first) she was able to tell me that the hamster was involved in a fight a week ago. So I do believe it's an abscess like some of you have mentioned. I'm going to pick him up tonight or tomorrow and get him treated.
