Exclamation Syrian Hamster Itching Scent Gland?

My Syrian hamster Desmond got up a bit after 2pm today, which he's never done (he usually wakes up around 7pm and is up the entire night), and he is frantically itching one of his scent glands on his hip. I know that grooming and licking the area and having a wet appearance is normal, but when he itches it he touches a certain spot and gets very agitated and starts running around, as if it hurts him. I tried looking at the spot to see if there is anything, but whenever I touch near it, he gets upset and tries to run. It's very hard to keep him still because of this, but I'm going to keep trying to see if there is something unusual in the area.

I'm worried he might have a tick (the dog brings in a lot of ticks and it is possible that a tick got on me and then on Desmond while I was playing with him) although I didn't see or feel one, or that he has an infection.

Edit: I was able to look more closely at his scent glands and it appears that there is nothing wrong with them, I compared his left scent gland that he keeps itching to the one on the right and they both look the same as they've always been, which makes this even more confusing to me.

He is very healthy and happy so this is extremely worrisome, so I thought I'd ask here as well as continue to do research on my own, and I will probably end up taking him to the vet soon.

Just to comment on the tick thing- it's unlikely this would happen. Once a tick finds a host, they typically latch on and feed rather than sitting and waiting for another host. It's extremely unlikely that it would end up on you from your dog, and even more unlikely that it would go from you to your hamster after that.

It may have instead been him doing normal grooming, their glands do become oily! Unless you see dry, irritated, or missing skin/fur, then I wouldn't worry yourself too much
