Default Paws dirty after escape. Should I clean them?

Marti put her superpowers to use and managed to escape. She hid behind the stove, traveling behind it and other kitchen appliances. After I managed to fetch her out, I noticed that her paws were covered in something black. God only knows what kind of dirty stuff it can be.
Should I try to clean her paws? If yes then how?

Thank you!

I expect you should as she'll probably lick her paws whilst cleaning herself. Maybe try walking her over damp kitchen paper or giving her a temporary sand bath and hope it comes off in that? If you feel confident enough you could maybe try to gently rub each paw on the kitchen paper, obviously be careful not to hurt her. I pressume you know not to bath her in water. I hope that helps

Well done on finding her! I once had a hamster, Willow escape behind the freezer. Rather than grabbing the oppertunity to capture her when she remerged, I made the mistake of trying to take photos of her...ended up staying up an extra hour on a school night
I like to think she had an exciting wee adventure though! X

Walking on damp kitchen paper sounds like a good idea. How tame is she? Would she sit still long enough for you to hold her and dab at the underneath of her paws with a damp cotton bud? Or a damp cloth?

I also like the damp paper towel idea. But, be careful not to get her tummy wet or she might get a chill. It might be quicker to simply hold her upside down and clean her paws with a damp cloth or towel. I know Marti is a very tame little Miss! It’s for eventualities like these that it helps to have them accustomed to the idea of being held lying on their backs (plus for health checks etc). I think breeders usually practise this with their hams and as Marti is from a breeder, I am sure she will let you do it.

Tell Marti no more escapies!

Thank you for the advice! I managed to get her upside down and quickly clean her paws with a damp cloth. Her belly fur is a bit too long to not get wet on the damp kitchen paper, so I was afraid to do that. She then went into her sand bath and when I checked after, the paws were completely back to their normal color. So, I think that we got all the gross stuff off.
EJoy123, oh my! I can imagine how frustrating it was for you trying to fetch your little guy out! When I was looking for her, I actually was thinking of carrying my phone with me to snap a picture once I found her. Thank god I didn't try to, as I would've lost her again.
Serendipity, she is very tame, so, she didn't much object to being held and cleaned, thankfully!
AprilPearl , I've been trying to teach her to get used to being held upside down, and she is okay with being like that for about five to ten seconds, but then she starts trying to wriggle her way out of the hold. I had to be very quick, but I think I managed I had a very serious talk with her about escapes but I feel like she was only pretending to listen.

Good that you managed to clean it all off and that her paws are restored to their former pink glory

You could try a gentle baby soap, with a soft tooth brush and wash her feet like that, should it happen in the future (fingers crossed for no more escapes!)

Glad she's all clean.

AprilPearl , Marti wouldn't have stood having her paws dirty for too long
Hekomi, thank you very much for the advice! I hope it'll never happen again, but I'll make sure to remember your advice!
