Bleeding Penis/Anus and Possibly Dead?!
My young hamster (under 2 months) is barely moving but mostly limp. Eyes not open. His penis/anus hole area has blood, I'm so worried. I think he may already be dead.
If I was sure he was just sick I'd post a photo, he twitches every so often but seems limp and dead. But I think he's dead and those are just...death twitches? Seems innaproriate to post a dead hamster. He keeps breathing every so often.
Its not cold enough for torpor, its 75f/23c.
I'm so worried for him :'(

Re: Bleeding Penis/Anus and Possibly Dead?!
He sounds to be on his way to bridge I am sorry to say. I would cover him up and let him pass peacefully in his own time. Tell him it is OK to go now. If he is still gasping he has not quite crossed yet but will be deeply unconcious so feeling no pain so don't fret.
The blood from his vents sound like he has a prolapsed bowel which he would not be able to survive.
I'm so sorry. Talk gently and check on him hourly.
Once he passes his body will go stiff and then after about 12hrs soft again. His soul will have gone over the bridge by then and you can lay him to rest.
I hope his path is gentle. Stay strong and walk a little way with him.

I've read up on torpor, hoping and praying thats it. It may have been cold enough for that. He's been moving every so often. I'm not sure he hasn't gone stiff yet. I'm just..so worried. Torpor doesn't make his vent bleed so that is why I'm not 100% positive its torpor...I'm just cluelessly waiting and hoping. Warming him up in hopes everything is OK.
I'll update if anything happens. Thank you!

As Souffle says it does sound as if he is dying - I am so sorry. Yes keep him warm and comfortable. It is very sad when he is so young. If you think he is suffering and he doesn't go, it might be an idea to think about taking him to the vets to help him on his way. Bleeding is always a bad sign. So sorry xxx

Re: Bleeding Penis/Anus and Possibly Dead?!
I personally do not think it's torpor unfortunately
He is very likely in tremendous pain, can you get him to a vet to be PTS? It may be the kindest option rather than to let him die slowly. If not, even at home euthanasia would be kinder than to allow him to suffer. Please let us know how he's getting on

If he isn't passed or better by 2:30pm I'm going to take him to a vet and see what can happen. Its 1:12pm so I'm not letting it go on TOO long, I hope he isn't suffering. He's been wiggling and such and..I wish i could show a photo, just to be sure about his bleeding. It might not be bleeding, but ...err...an erection. I googled it, it seemed kind of like a normal hamster weenie.

I'm unsure if its bleeding or just uh..a red penis? If that makes sense? Sound inappropriate, but I've only ever had female hamsters. It was quite cold so idk...I'm just hoping its torpor but if he's not better by 2:30pm I'm going to a vet. (1:15pm right now)
Here's hoping he can recover but if not, its such a shame he died so young I'll have to contact the owner of his parents and let her know that it might be genetic.

Re: Bleeding Penis/Anus and Possibly Dead?!
It isn't normal for the penis to be outside the sheath except when mating. Redness can mean an infection or a blockage of the tube leading from the bladder or a prolapsed penis. Could he have fallen and injured his spine or something internally? Does he bar climb?
Check the water bottle is working well and he is not dehydrated.
I hope the vet can help. It won't be torpor at the temperature you are saying it is just now. It's too warm for that.

Re: Bleeding Penis/Anus and Possibly Dead?!
I had a adorable dwarf that had dried blood keeping his pens permanently out. By the time I noticed it about 2-3 days had gone by. I hate myself for not turning him over during the time he started acting sickly. I don't know what took me so long??? I rushed him to vet to get him PTS the second I saw what I saw.

Unfortunately Joji passed away about 20 minutes ago.
He was so young and it was so sudden, he was hyper and active yesterday.
