Pyometra - Vaginal Cytology
Ok. Technical question.
For anyone who's had a hamster positively diagnosed with a pyometra did they do a vaginal cytology?
And if so, what exactly did the vet see on the cytology? Or does anyone have a vet who is quite knowledgeable on this type of thing?
I have 6 females all over 1 year. Last month I noticed a bit of blood around the vulva of one. Put her on baytril for a week and haven't seen anything since. Then yesterday noticed a bit of blood around the vulva of another female. There was a bit more there today.
I decided to get vaginal swabs on all 6 hamsters. I will have my boss who is also a veterinary clinical pathologist look at the swabs tomorrow. I looked at them quickly under the microscope and interestingly all 6 had bacteria on them, some had epithelial cells and some may have had some squashed neutrophils. I just don't know what is normal and what is not and I'm unsure my vet will either.
