Help !!
I didn't introduce myself because I need immediate advice . I recently purchased a black bear hamster ( 2 days ago exactly ) & he is suffering from diarrhea & idk if it is wet tail or just diarrhea . I gave him banana yesterday & he loved it , he might've had a bit much honestly . He's still active & he eats and drinks from his water bottle . Should I be worried ? Or could the diarrhea be from the banana I gave him yesterday ? Please help !! His name is Hercules .

Re: Help !!
I hope Hercules is ok
Does he still have diarrhoea?
This link may be useful to you Hamster Ailments - A resource of hamster related illness's and diseases - Hamster Central WIKI - scroll down to Gastrointestinal System - there are information and symptoms of wet tail and diarrhoea that you may find helpful.
Although the banana could have upset him if you have fed him a large amount.
If he still have diarrhoea it may be a idea to get him seen by a vet.

Re: Help !!
Welcome to the forum and congrats on Hercules! You've found the right place for advice.
I would say it is more likely wet tail since you just brought your Syrian home. The banana could have caused the diarrhoea. I think it is important for you to take him to the vet since it could be either wet tail or diarrhoea. Make sure you see an experienced hamster vet, sooner rather than later.
I hope Hercules is alright and I wish him better.

Re: Help !!
Hello & Welcome! It's important you get this little one to the vet. I'd also contact the place where you got him, if he was in with other hamsters then they'll need to see the vet too.

Re: Help !!
I went to the pet store I purchased him from and they referred me to some multivitamins & wet tail medicine to give him. I fed him some orally before I left for work as well as put some in his water bottle . I recieved a call saying he was climbing his cage bars lol ( which he hadn't done since he's been sick ) I cleaned his cage before I left and going to clean it when I get home. I was afraid it was wet tail but like I mentioned, he is behaving normally ! He's still eating , drinking water , running around in his ball , he doesn't sit hunched over nor is he irritable , he probably enjoys sleeping with me in bed more than ever. I'm going to make sure when I get home but I'm really hoping he's going to start feeling better .

Re: Help !!
Wet tail medication from a pet store won't likely work. You need to go to an actual veterinarian who knows what they're doing,as pet shop employees won't know the same things. It isn't the fault of the employees, because honestly they shouldn't have to be trained to know the same information as a vet,but do be cautious when accepting information from pet shops!

Okay ! Thank you . I will be sure to schedule him an appointment because I just want him to feel better . It just sucks to even know he's uncomfortable
