Default My hamster is going bald

My Long haired Syrian hamster is about 1 and a half years old and is losing all of his fur. I noticed he was losing fur about a month ago. I took him to the vet and they put medicine on his skin to get rid of parasites and gave him antibiotics. Unfortunately neither of these things worked for him. He is still losing a lot of fur and is nearly bald, His skin is very dry and also his lips are swollen. Im not really sure what else to do and I hate seeing him this way.

Hi Caeley and welcome
I'm sorry to hear your hamster is unwell.
It does sound like your hamster may have Cushings disease which sadly is not curable.
I would go back to the vet and ask about this.
There is some information here that may help you treat this disease and compare to how your little one is. If there are dark patches with pigment on them it is almost certainly Cushings.

Did they do a skin scrape to properly check for parasites? Is he itchy? I agree with Souffle's post too. I had a hammie with Cushings but she scratched too. She was also treated for mites which didn't work. Then another vet, exotic vet diagnosed Cushings. Found out to never go to a small animal vet if you have access to an exotic vet. Even if the are more expensive

Thank you so the reply. Unfortunately, he has most of the symptoms for Cushings disease. He is continuing to lose more are more fur. The vet that I took him to was an exotic vet, but she didn't do any testing. She just assumes it was parasites by looking at him. .
