How is baby food used for dwarf hamsters?

I came across a few hamster owners who have described giving their hamsters baby food, but this struck me as odd. I'll be honest in saying that I'm a first time hamster owner and dont quite understand under what circumstances baby food should be given to a hamster. I would really appreciate if someone could explain in what situations you would give baby food to a hamster.
