Hi all,
My Zelda is around 2 years 5 months old. id noticed lately that he seemed to be urinating more and he also has some hair loss. i didnt think too much of the hair loss as Gizzy is now more or less completely bald(Gizzy is the same age and also a syrian) but when reading on the hamster central wiki it says that hair loss can be associated with renal failure. I just wondered if there was anything we can be doing to help him? i have read about lowering the protein in his diet-what is the best way to go about this? i mean, is there a staple diet that is better then others for this?
i have ratties that have had kidney failure and recently discovered Ipakitine. its actually for cats and dogs but you can give a lower dose to rats and it works wonders. i just wondered if anyone had tried this with a hammie before? Ive had Zelda on a very low dose of this the past few days now and he has had no ill effect from it, just watching and waiting to see if it helps him though-shall report back! Want to do all i can for my little man. he and his brothers have been with us so long and i want them here with us a while yet! Zelda has become so active lately, he wants out to free range alot more now then he did in his younger days so age certainly is NOT slowing him down
he can still be a grumpess(as i like to call him
) when he wants to be but i love him anyway and i think his age has earned him that right lol.
So yes anyway advice is very welcome
