Default crusty scent gland?

My hybrid's scent gland looks a bit crusty. He doesn't like being picked up, so I can't take a picture unless he sleeps on his back again. Is this normal?

It's quite common, the scent gland can get infected too sometimes so it's best to bath it with some cotton wool soaked in boiled & then cooled water to clean it up if you can.
If you can't pick him up to do that then keep a close eye on it in case it does get infected & he needs a vet trip.

I have that issue with both my male hybrids, though Lunar's scent gland got infected and had to be removed. Tank's is still rather flat thankfully but I still need to clean it, if you can manage to get to clean the gland try squeezing it gently as well to get any excess stuff out. Unpleasant but it has to be done.
