Nutmeg's Thread
Hello all,
So first of all I am going to thank everybody that helped me yesterday figure out what to do with Nutmeg's Pyo situation. I have wanted to start a thread about Nutmeg so its a bit sad that we are on these conditions. So I am going to cover today's and yesterday's events briefly but in detail, so here we go:
1st June 2016:
Nutmeg's vet trip, you can find out more on the thread entitled: "Nutmeg's Vet Trip". I thought her increased swelling was either overweight, closed or open pyo or diabetes. The vet said to keep an eye on her so I did some research onto Pyo and know what I am looking for. Observing her I saw that beneath her eye she had what looked like dust or either a sapphire pattern colour coming through but I think it was dust, she is due for a cleaning in about a week, however it was odd as she is on Carefresh, I may bump up her cleaning to this weekend and order the fitch bedding now. So going to bed I heard her drink for a while and am going to check and measure how much she drinks in a day and night so will do her water twice a day. She weighed 39g on 1st June 2016.
2nd June 2016:
So today (in the day) she drunk 3ml or 7ml I couldn't really tell as my maths is awful XD if it was 7ml the bottle may have leaked so I am going to place a tile underneath the water tonight to see of anything leaks. There was a smell coming from the cage a few days ago but it wasn't fishy so she could have been on heat but she may have been yesterday as she went bonkers on her wheel then. There was no discharge today as I checked, I couldn't see anything there was nothing obvious like puss type liquid but it looked crusty but I couldn't see properly but the area was very small ,will check again tomorrow and try and get a picture (I fell like if I don't do it now something will happen) , the swelling in her belly has cone down and she also weighed 37-38g today, not sure as she wouldn't stand still XD This is a 2 or 1g decrease, is that too much in a day!? She had to be in a small cage tonight as we had to unexpectedly go to someone's house who hurt their back so I didn't leave Nutmeg alone. On the way to the house she started squeaking, she didn't open her eyes and I was like "AHHH" but she was itching her ear I think XD.
On an unrelated note I got this fun bird house for her for free here are some pics:
I am going to hang it from a hook and put a bendy bridge leading up to it as sort of a hammock.

Will go in on the weekend as I will clean her out then.
Last note: The fox that lives in my garden has just had several pups and luckily the garden is two levels one ground the other second floor level so luckily the dog can't get to Mum or Pups and nor can they get to my dog, will get pics.
Sorry about the long post!

Re: Nutmeg's Thread
Just checked this morning how much she drank last night and it was just under 5ml! I am glad she isn't drinking too much. Shall I do her water twice a day once in the morning the other in the evening to get an accurate reading??

Re: Nutmeg's Thread
Nutmeg last night was burrowing all around the cage and going mad on the wheel. I will order the fitch today.

Re: Nutmeg's Thread
Hello all,
3rd June 2016
Nutmeg today wasn't as lively as yesterday which makes me wander if she was on heat or not then as she weighs more today at 39-40g so it does make sense as she was 37-38g yesterday. Also there was little discharge yesterday too and none today and she went mad on her wheel. So last night she drunk about 4.5-4.7 ml of water so not excessive amounts which I am worried about and also no swelling around the belly, again she has put on 2-3g of weight so there is obvious little gain in weight so a little gain in weight around the belly is nothing to worry about as I know she ahs gained weight, but will weigh her tomorrow. She is more tame today too which is good and she let me groom her with my hamster brush! Sooo cute!! She had finished burrowing and building her nest too Will keep you all updated and here is a cute pic but she just looks like a tiny Panda!!!

its not very clear as it is on my phone but still its a picture XD

Re: Nutmeg's Thread
It's good you're keeping a close eye on her. Has there been anymore discharge?

Re: Nutmeg's Thread
Hello all,
4th June 2016
So Nutmeg today weighed 39g which is her average weight now so am pleased by that, she was very tame today too!! I measured incorrectly how much water she drunk last night as I got 0.1ml, so have cleaned out the cage and will get a reading tomorrow, there was no swelling today around the belly which was good Checked to see if there was discharge and couldn't see any which was good but did see something odd, however this is the first time I have seen it in the discharge check and to be honest this is the first time I have properly checked for discharge in all my hammies, so it could be completely normal but I just wasn't to be sure, so here is a pic:
IMG_0272.jpg
It looks like a weird dangly thing hanging from the area where discharge appears (I know hamster anatomy but I just don't want to sound grose!) it could be completely normal as it is the size of a hamster poo but it was pink so I don't know.
Thanks

Re: Nutmeg's Thread
5th June 2016
Nutmeg today weighed 39g per usual so no incredible weight loss there which is good, we have no discharge or swelling and a very tame hamster, water has been done with her drinking 2ml last night so not excessive, will keep a close eye on her but she is a fighter and pulling through the hell that was last week. She should be on heat tomorrow so will expect to see a little discharge and a little more drinking so won't be shocked.

Re: Nutmeg's Thread
So Nutmeg was building an open nest as it has been sooo hot where I am in the UK and I don't really like warm weather! However I spotted a little discharge from the eye and I mean a little it was so small ,grey and barely noticeable, will keep an eye on her, I personally think it is dust from the Carefresh as she needs a clean now so will keep an eye on her
