Grass?
Hey everyone.
I saw a video on YouTube by Chubabi from a while ago and she made her hamster a toy with grass in, now I've made the toy and I got some grass (not allot) and washed it as I have a dog and I don't want any pee etc on it, then I put seeds in from her muesli food and gave it to her and she seems to like it but I thought I would re search it just in case to make sure grass is okay but I'm getting different answers? some say yes and some say it can cause diarrhea! Oreo didn't eat all of it and I've put the rest back in the toy for another time in a couple days as I don't want her to have it all if it isn't very good for them. I will be making a post about the toy soon so keep a eye out for that!
So can hamsters eat grass if their isn't chemicals on my grass and if I quickly washed it out with water? or is it bad and causes diarrhea?

Re: Grass?
My hams get grass that I grow in the little tray kits from Zooplus - Great deals on rodent food at zooplus: Grow your own Rodent Grass - I give them quite a bit at a time and they eat a little and put the rest in their beds (it dries out an goes like soft hay, so isn't a problem). But I don't think I'd be happy giving grass from outdoors, no matter how well it was washed. I might just be being over cautious though!

Re: Grass?
I didn't know they could eat grass. I'm just growing some of the nibble grass that Barley linked at the moment. I only put it in the tray with a bit of water two days ago and it is sprouting already!

That seems like a good idea, I just saw the video and assumed it was okay. I won't give her anymore though.

Re: Grass?
Grass is just a veg as far as they're concerned, fresh cut or grown, I doubt any ham would eat enough to cause digestive problems but they do often enjoy a small amount, if you grow it or the barley "grass" it's best to just give it for a short while under supervision, they usually dig it up if it's left in the cage anyway!
I do agree about giving them grass or anything else from outdoors barley, I would go so far as to say I'm a bit paranoid about it lol! I'm sure I only know the half of what's been on it but that's enough to put me right off!

Yes, I only let her have a little bit of grass thankfully!
I won't let have anymore just in case because I guess you never know what is on the grass even if it is from your garden! At least I only gave her a little and I washed it so she should be alright I think.
