Default Yellow specs round ears?

Hugo has weird yellow or white specs round the edge of his ears. I don't know if maybe he has ear mites or something?
Flump has nothing and her cage is underneath his.
I haven't seen him scratching at them and they don't look red or irritated at all. Just round the outside on the edge of his ears there are weird yellowy scaps or specs? Very weird...

Should I get some mite treatment for him just in case?

He's behaving completely normally!
He's had it for a little while now, just over a week or so I think.

They do look a bit like growths, it's really difficult to see mites with the naked eye as far as I know so I don't think it's that. I'm going to say vet visit on this one but hopefully one of the more experienced members can give you a better idea what it could be

It doesn't look normal & I agree with Ruby about the mites not being visible, I would be inclined to take him to the vet & see what they say.

First i thought maybe it was mites or something, but when i picked him up for that photo i realised that it doesnt look like mites or anh kind of parasite at all... The spots sort of stick out a little. I thought maybe a weird growth or fungal infection but its a complete guess.

Poor Hugo, back to the vets we go little man! Hopefully the vet will be nice to you this time round... Will book him in for an appointment on thursday.

It could be a Pox virus hrl but a vet would need to have a look to give you their professional opinion. I`ve seen similar small warts on rats ears in images so that was the first thing that came to mind when I seen your image. It`s only an educated guess, but one to take note of. If your worried, I would let your vet have a look and give their opinion and no just guess because treatment would depend on what this actually is and you don`t want to be fobbed off and given a wrong diagnosis or wrong medication. Especially if Hugo is well in himself.

A Pox virus can appear like this around the ears and sometimes on the nose/eyelids etc....

Is this virus contagious at all? Flump's cage is right below his and i've been handling him. Is it zoonotic? (Transferable to humans)

I`ve tried to find some articles on it in hamsters and havn`t found anything solid. Which may be a good thing. But wash your hands after handling him anyway until you know what the cause is. Could be something simple that the vet may say just to leave alone, but until you know, it`s better to take precautions. I wouldn`t worry over it to be honest. x

I did a quick google search and found next to nothing on it, which is annoying!

He came up to the side of the cage earlier, letting me have a closer look at his ears. They havent got any worse since last night, but he has what looks like dried skin above his nose... I don't know if thats to do with what he has?
