Exclamation Poorly Hammy - Wet tail

Hey! So, as you might have seen, yesterday I thought Phoebe and I had come to the end of the road! The vet has said that the stress, probably from her lump, has caused wet tail! So this is her last chance!

He has given her antibiotics for 10 days and says if this doesn't improve and she is still unwell, then I will have to put her to sleep! IT must taste disgusting because he fed her the0.05mg meds with a syringe and since then, she darts away whenever I get it out! She won't take it off a spoon and sniffs it on her yoghurt drops!

Do you have any advice on how I can get her to take these meds? I have to give her 0.05mg twice a day of the liquid medicine but really worried she won't take it at all!

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

So sorry to hear this.

I've been having the same issues with my little girl. Is there anyone who can administer the syringe while you hold her? That's how I've done it. It feels cruel but it simply has to be done. Just be patient and hold her firm so her paw's can't force it away. Push it into the side of her mouth so she doesn't choke on it. Keep reassuring her between each attempt to administer the anti biotic.

Good luck and I'm sending all my love your way. I hope you and your ham pull through

Try wrapping her in a clean towel like a burrito so it's tougher for her to force you away.

You could try mixing the medicine with a little fruit juice and then give her a treat straight after - I sometimes held my ham in the same position I gave her the medicine in and gave her a mealworm to get her used to staying still! Hope Phoebe gets better soon.

I've always given meds mixed with a tiny bit of baby food or porridge, not too much as you want them to eat it all & get the full dose, it usually works really well.

HEY GUYS!!! Thanks for your messages! My partner and I have been able to give her her meds successfully! He held her whilst I gave her the yucky stuff! Tried mixing it with some baby food but she was too clever and knew we were tricking her hehe Safe to say, one week on, she's definitely improving!!!
