Could the dark under the eyes just be the color? Can you try to get a better pic of its back and bottom too?

You're very kind for rescuing this hamster, especially since you don't have experience. If you can, you can order bedding, food, and other materials online for it. If the hamster will let you without too much squirming, can you try to gently hold it on its back (out your thumb in its tummy and you lay it in your hand basically to hold it that way) and if you can get a picture of the underside of would help us see the genitals so we could help determine gender better too.

It does sound like the lump may be testicles but where the hamster is sickly it could be something else. Do you have any cat and dog gets around? If you call them they might be able to tell you about a small pet vet in your area.

Also if you don't have a bottle and it didn't previously, make sure it knows to drink from the bowl. You can give him some lettuce and cucumbers as well as a bit of celery to help give him more water if he won't drink from the bowl or you haven't seen him drinking from it.

Be on the lookout for diahrea. Diahrea in hamsters could be a sign of wet tail which is a serious disease in hamsters and if it's not treated will most likely result in death.

You can also feed him some oats (like plain dry oatmeal) with his food.

Hi, well done for rescuing him! I just took a look at your photos. I think it's a male Syrian hamster. So, there's nothing to worry about with the bottom, because that is normal for a boy!
Are you able to buy things online? Sometimes you can get them a little cheaper online. I don't know anything about what food is available outside England to be honest, so hopefully someone else can help there.
He looks quite small to me, so he could be young still. I'm really sad that someone could just throw him away like that!
It sounds like you're doing well though, so keep going! There is loads of people on here who can offer help and advice, so don't be afraid to ask! Well done

I would say that is a dwarf, in the second pic you can clearly see he has little furry feet which syrians do not. To me it kind of looks like he is missing some fur on his testicles maybe as with dwarfs they are usually furry down there. The missing fur could be from lots of things but if it is only in that area it could be from rubbing them on something. If you cannot find a vet, which I know from other peoples post i your area it is really hard if not impossible, I would just keep an eye on it and see if the hair loss spreads.

Oh and if maybe you could get a pic not quite so close up so we can see if they look swollen, in that pic they don't look like it to me but its a little close up.

Looks like a little Russian hybrid in that second photo to me.

That does look swollen to me, not normal for a dwarf ham anyway.

You are an angel for rescuing him out of the trash. Hopefully his bottom is just sore from his previous situation. How warm is it where he is being kept? I think lots of rest and good food and fresh water are the best you can do now. Have a look on the Internet for "bin cages" for ideas for low cost hammy homes in the meantime while he gets his strength back. To get a good pic of his bottom you can put him in a clear glass. Be careful about overdoing new and fresh foods as too much can upset his digestion. Small amounts of fresh veg introduced slowly. Cypher, how much do you think he should get? What's his name?
