Baby hamsters weight
Dex my 8/9 week old syrian weighs 100g. I weighed him last week and he weighed the same. Im worried as he is definately not food oriented. He does not eat very much will very rarely take any food off me. He is happy for me to hold or stroke him but hes till a bit skittish. I have never seen him fill his pouches. I have never had a hamster that eats so little. Should i be worried?

Re: Baby hamsters weight
Keep checking his weight each week. He should gain weight. At least he hasn't lost weight.
Give him treats/seeds that are more fatty. Sunflower seeds, cheese, honey seed sticks.

Re: Baby hamsters weight
I wouldn't worry too much, you've only had him a couple of weeks I think so he's still settling in & getting used to things.
I would continue to weigh him regularly to see how he goes but don't give too many fatty or sweet treats, a growing ham may need a little extra protein depending on what mix you use so a tiny piece of chicken a couple of times a week would be good.
Are you using the same food he had before he came to you or something different?

Re: Baby hamsters weight
I bought him at pets at home and they were feeding him their mix so i bought that. Personally i think its rubbish and i like harry hamster which i have fed my hamsters in the past. I bought a bag at weekend and mixed some in with pets at home stuff. Just doing it slowly so he wont get tummy upset.

Re: Baby hamsters weight
He should do a bit better on the HH, switching from one muesli type mix to another isn't usually much of a problem so you shouldn't need to go to slow with it, maybe half & half for a while.
