I think Pumpkin is dying
Hi everyone. I haven't been around in a long time.
Last January, I posted about my Syrian Pumpkin, and how he wasn't eating and just staying in his igloo. Well, he's doing it again, and since he has to be 2 years old by now, if not more since I don't know how old he was when I got him, I think this might be the end.
I feel guilty because I was sick for a few weeks with a sinus infection, so I pretty much didn't interact with him besides cleaning his cage quickly and giving him food, because I didn't want to get him sick in case I had a cold. So I wasn't really aware of any changes going on with him. He would always come out at 11 pm, and I had to make sure I put my new kitten away because she would try to jump on his cage. Then I noticed a few nights ago that it was after 11 and he still wasn't out. I had to go to bed in order to get up early for work, so I figured I just missed him. The food was gone, so I knew he was up at some point.
Yesterday I noticed that he didn't eat, and his favorite seeds were on top of the dish untouched. I picked up his house and he was just curled in a ball. His ears were back and kind of purplish. He didn't really open his eyes. I turned on his heating mat under his tank in case he was cold, and I gave him some baby food cereal and yogurt, and he licked a little from a spoon. I did that a few times through the day, and even ordered Oxbow critical care to mix in with it, in the hopes that it would perk him up a bit. He was able to come out to pee, but it was only a little pee. Lately he had been drinking and peeing a lot, and his cage had a bad smell to it, like it wasn't changed for weeks, and I had only changed his bedding last Sunday.
Does this sound like the end? He's doing the same today, barely eating, not really drinking, and came out to pee once. I'm leaving him alone, because he was always jumpy and I don't think he would want me touching him. That's also why I'd rather not take him to the vet, and upset him and then it's probably something that can't be treated. If he has to go, if he's not in pain, I would rather he go in his warm bed.

Re: I think Pumpkin is dying
I'm sorry to hear that Pumpkin isn't very well. If he isn't drinking you could try offering him water close to his house. I did that with Lexi when she was poorly and she took it. It saved her getting up after she had surgery. It sounds like you are offering a good variety of food for him. Someone could probably suggest some foods that might encourage him to eat. I have heard cooked chicken and egg is good. I hope Pumpkin does perk up and feels better soon. Best wishes xx

Sorry to hear this, it's awful when you feel like their time is coming to a close .
As long as he's not in pain and if it is time to go, he does pass away peacefully while having a nice dream.
Fingers crossed he perks up though.
Get well soon pumpkin

Sorry to hear he isn't well. If he isn't eating and drinking then it could be kinder to take him to the vets. You could put his whole nest, with him in it, in a pet carrier to take him, so he is comfortable.

So sad reading this, I agree with serendipity.

Re: I think Pumpkin is dying
I'm distraught because I wish I knew it was so serious and had taken him to the vet when he still would have had a chance to get better. I'm just glad he isn't suffering anymore.
