Re: Hamster with both eyes closed
I'm sure he will be happy with that Did you make the ladder? It looks rather nice with those wood pieces to help him climb up. Do you have oatmeal like Nancy suggested - you make it into a porridge with water. Our hamster eats it off a teaspoon and grabs hold of the teaspoon ha ha.

That is an extremely young pup. If you got it from a breeder report that breeder to your country's hamster club. If you got it from a pet store put a warning up about the store selling pups that are way too young to be separated from mom.

Unfortunately, most of the pet shops of my country sell very young hámsters.

Re: Hamster with both eyes closed
If I were you I would probably cut back a bit on the veggies. I am concerned that a pups this young that is not used to the veggies will get a upset tummy. The piece it has in the second picture, I would cut that to less than half. Do you notice little poos everywhere? I only ask because I don't see any in any of the pics you have posted. Whenever I have had one that is ill the first thing I notice is there are not little pellets everywhere. Does it ever have its ears up and eyes open? Even this young they shouldn't be closed ALL the time.
You are doing a very good job with the little one!!

Re: Hamster with both eyes closed
Keep trying your best Panda, your doing a great job. He looks so cute bless him.
I don't know if this is a stupid question, but is it possible that a hamster can cope when it's blind? I know they heavily rely on smell to get around anyway. Just in case the damage is already done on this little baby, hopefully it can adapt!
I'd advise you to slowly approach him when your attempting to handle him too, just let him know your nearby because he might be extremely shocked if you just go to grab him so quick.
Get well soon little one

There are no stupid questions They can absolutely cope wonderfully without the use of their eyes. I have an eyeless white (she was born without eyes) and a male here with inverted eyelashes, so he cannot open his eyes at all, that both do great. you just have to make sure you keep their habitat the same and free of any sharp edges or dangerous areas, so no platforms.

Ok, I'm going to give it less vegetables. Yes I have seen little poos in the cage. The hámster is all the time with the eyes closed, only the first day it has one eye open. Thanks

It is a good new know that if it is blind, it will be able to lead a normal life. I've noticed that it don't have any problem to find the things he need with the eyes closed, so I can understand that a blind hámster can has a normal life and be happy. I am trying to be very careful with it for don't scare it. The hamster is less nervous, and yesterday the hamster let me touch it a little. I only touched the back of the hamster for a few second and it wasn't sacred
Thanks!

Re: Hamster with both eyes closed
Panda that's great news! I'm delighted for you!
And it'll be comforting to know that Erin.R has brought up 2 without eyesight so if the worst happens (touch wood) and she doesn't gain eyesight she can still live a happy life
Like Erin.R says just always be aware of sharp edges etc and anything that could harm a clumsy hammy cos they're all clumsy even with eyesight. Just keep all that in mind.
Keep us updated on your beautiful pup please
