Default Found a lump :(

Obviously I will get Obi to a vet as soon as but as the next best thing in the meantime... has anyone seen a lump like this before or have any advise?

It seems to be oozing/have a head. Is it in the scent gland area? It could be an infected scent gland maybe. I'm no expert - good luck at the vets x

Hi.....I noticed you are in Manchester I can recommend a fantastic vet....The Ashleigh based in chorlton. They successfully removed two lump's on Neptune, the first when he was 5 months and the second when he was 1year 10 months. He will be two in March.

They specialise in small animals and exotics.

It is quite difficult to see from the picture but with any abnormality personally I feel it's best getting it checked.

How old is Obi?

Hiya, thanks for your replies.

I've got an appointment for her tomorrow with our vets so will see what they say first. Thanks for the recommendation, I will keep their details just in case I need a second opinion.

I'm trying not to worry (failing miserably) as she is ok in herself. She's eating, peeing, pooping and getting around ok so hopefully all good signs. Obi is about 18 months old now. Sorry that the pic is rubbish but to be truthfully getting her to stay still for me to see was a challenge never mind for photo! The lump doesnt appear to have changed overnight but seems closer to her tail than her hip/scent gland.

Will keep you posted...

Well she went to the vets yesterday but as it was an emergency appointment they couldn't really do much. The vet thinks it may have started growing near her tail as that is where it is "attached" the most. We now have to think whether to have a sample taken to see if that reveals anything and/or have her put under to have it removed. We're gonna take a couple of days to think about it but as it isn't affecting Obi at all the vet was reasonably optimistic about it not being anything nasty.

Thanks for the positive thoughts

Oh by the way, Obi was in such a huff last night cos she'd been poked and prodded, that she wouldn't come out of her bed even for broccoli! Feeling sorry for herself, poor baby.

Poor Obi, Twinkle's first trip to the vet put her in a huff. She hid under her house and wouldn't come out for treats either. The second trip went much better.
Have you decided what to do yet?

I have a hamster with a lump by her tail area around the same age as yours & the vet said because of her age there isn't much they can do? Will be interesting to see what you decide?

I've booked Obi in for a biopsy tomorrow afternoon at the vets so she's not going to be happy at all with me! The lump seems to have grown a little bit and now has a second sore patch on it which looks angry

When I've sat an thought about it I think she's more like 20 months old as I didn't add the age she was when we got her to how we've had her, doh!

Sorry to hear your hammie also has a lump Cinnamon Bear. Hope he/she is doing ok. We've been spoiling Obi a bit to make up for us examining her at every opportunity, she got the biggest walnut going last night It is hard to weigh up their quality of life versus their age and health.

Will let you know how we get on.
