sharing toys
This isn't the nicest subject... but when a hamster passes away (from no contagious disease) can you re- use that hamster's plastic and wood toys for a new hamster if you sanitize them (like boiling the wood e.c.t.). Obviously not the edible ones or chews but the houses and bridges?
thanks,
Orla

Re: sharing toys
Freezing wood kills parasites. Not sure about boiling, the others might know. I think leaving something in the oven at a fairly low temp can sanitize things. I guess a coat of plastikote would stop the wood houses of smelling of the last ham as that would perhaps be stressful for the new one. My hams use the same playpen but I might hesitate to give a chew or something to another ham, just as I would if it was chewed by a person. Just not v nice!
