Toilet Trouble?
Hello everyone,
Yesterday I purchased two dwarf hamster sisters and this morning while I was refilling water bottles ect, I found that neither of them had gone to the toilet during the night. Is this constipation?
I hope you can help,
Edie AKA Pumpkinhammies

Hi Pumkinhammies-
Have you seen them eat their food? Did you check their nest? That is where my dwarfs go poo, mostly, however if you got them yesterday, I'd let them settle for a few days to a week, before trying to handle them, or disturbing their nest. What type of food are you feeding them?

Re: Toilet Trouble?
Dwarf ham droppings are really very small so you probably won't see much in just 24 hours, it can also just get mixed into the substrate & virtually disappear as long as they're healthy they really only drink & pee tiny amounts too so it may be a while before you find where they decide to go so I doubt you have anything to worry about.
Try not to go poking about in their cage too much, it will take them a few days at least to settle in & choose a spot to pee or poo then things will begin to become a bit more obvious!
Just be sure to feed them a good dwarf ham mix, check & refill water bottles regularly & once they are settled very slowly begin to introduce tiny bits of veg into their diet & you really shouldn't have any problems.
