Default Mustache is dying

My 2 year old Syrian is dying. She started having seizures and really strange behaviors I've never observed before. She was going wild, throwing herself around her cage, bumping into it, flipping over and not being able to get up. That was 3 hours ago, now she is laying on a blanket I put in her cage and she is making a squeaking sound I've never heard before. I wish I could help her. It's Christmas eve, there are no small animal vets around who could help, unless she survives the night, which I doubt she will. I know hamsters don't tend to live more than 2-3 years, but it is so hard to see her suffer this way. When this first started I was able to get her to take a little water from her water bottle, but since then she doesn't want to open her mouth. She wouldn't take food from my fingers. She can't hold herself up anymore. It is so sad.

I'm so sorry rozierfam, it's so hard & very sad to see your Mustache like this but I don't think there is anything you can do other than be there for her, talk to her & keep her as comfortable as possible.
She will know you're there for her & be comforted by that, she really is a good age & has had a good life now so it may just be her to time to go.
Hope you're ok.

I feel for you. The best course of action if you can`t get to a vet is to leave her alone. When a hamster is dying, it`s better to let nature take it`s course, keep things quiet and try to resist lifting her up as this can sometimes make the body react and she could start fitting. Poor love. How is she now? If she`s having breathing problems she won`t eat or drink because her energy will be so sapped from trying to breathe she won`t be able to swallow.

Are you in the UK? x

I'm so sorry. .. if she is laying in her cage, keeping her warm, with putting a little blanket or hand towel on her, may bring her some comfort. Again, I feel for you, and your hamster.. xx

As I suspected would happen, she died overnight. Poor thing. It was so hard to see her go through that.

I'm so sorry rozierfam, at least she's not suffering & is at peace now, try to take comfort in that, I know it's still very hard to lose a ham even when they reach old age & I'm sure she will be missed very much.

Run free & play well at the bridge Mustache.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Well, at least you know Mustache had a happy life (and an awesome name)
