Exclamation Wound On Hampsters back [Robo Dwaf]

So about 1 week ago I saw that my hampster had a cut on its back it isn't to big but now one week on one moment it looks like it's getting better then next it looks worse should I contact a vet and this hampster shares a cadge but when I first got my hampster it bit me and it's no bigger than a pin prick I think she has caught herself on the bamboo tepie in her cadge I have now removed it is there anything I can do to help

Thanks

Your hamster shares a cage with another hamster? It might be a wound from fighting, in which case you need to find a way to separate the hamsters. Just because you only got a tiny bite from a robo doesn't mean they can't seriously injure or even kill eachother. A big plastic storage box with the lid off will do for a temporary cage.

If you think you might need to see a vet, you should probably just go. Better safe than sorry and if it's been an open wound for a week there is a higher chance it is going to get infected.

Hi Tyler, I agree with what Shannon has said.
If your hammy lives on his own then I would look at everything you have in his cage and check for any rough/broken bits. You might need to see a vet, he might need a course of antibiotics to avoid any further infection delaying the healing of the cut.

Hi. As the others say, yes it would be a good idea to take your hamster to a vet. Wounds can turn septic. Also if your hamster is sharing a cage the wound could be being re-opened when they fight. You might not see them fight, but if they have started this can often lead to one killing the other and/or some serious injuries to both.

I think you should separate them now, as Shannon says. And take the one with the injury to the vets. So you will either need to get another cage quickly, or make a bin cage out of a plastic storage box as Shannon suggested, but this will need holes cutting out and mesh ventilation putting in.

Although you can get a bin cheap, by the time you have got all the bits and pieces it could be easier to buy a not-so-expensive cage.

This would be good for a Robo (Ferplast Multy Duna tank)

Cage Duna Multy

Dwarf hamsters can live happily together for a long time but once they start fighting and causing an injury it is an urgent and serious situation and could be expensive in vet bills as well as the hamsters suffering.

Apologies if I've misunderstood and your hamster isn't sharing a cage at the moment. But if they are sharing a cage then they need to be separated now. So it might be quicker to buy a cage or duna tank locally.
