Scratching face, missing fur, cut.
Aria has been scratching her face for about four days now. At first she managed to scratch off some fur and because I never saw her scratching I thought that it might have been a nutritional problem. However tonight I've noticed that she managed to cut herself from the scratching.
So, the itching and fur loss is ONLY on the right side of her face. Does anyone know what this could be? I'll be applying some thyme to her wound tonight but I'm really interested in figuring this out.
I don't know if it's mites because I haven't been able to find any and the itching is localized.
These pictures where from when I first noticed it. I'll see if I can get her to sit still long enough for me to take an up to date picture.

Re: Scratching face, missing fur, cut.
I would have a vet look at it.
Hams can get many different types of mites and one of them lives under the surface of the skin, making them impossible to see.
I do find it odd that it's only that particular spot though. But I would probably ask a vet about it could bebe caused by so many things

Re: Scratching face, missing fur, cut.
Til you can get her to the vet, check everything in her cage. It's possible she's nicked herself on something sharp & it's made it itchy. A tiny little cut could easily get lost in the fur. If she's chewed anything wood or plastic & rubbed her face along it, it wouldn't take a lot to break the skin I wouldn't have thought.

you could try a hamster spot-on treatment from the pet shop first, if this doesn't improve it within 2 or 3 days though I'd see the vet.

Re: Scratching face, missing fur, cut.
I'll be taking her to the vet on Thursday. That's the earliest opening I could find.
