edgars got sticky eyes getting stuck shut. :0(

my edgar is half bald and being treated for mite infestation but he is also getting his eyes stuck together when he wakes up. he has been going round the cage with either both or one eye stuck shut. which cant be very nice for him.

do you think this is mite related too?

hows the best way to unstick them? ive been using baby wipes. they are very stuck and take quite a bit of releasing. poor little boy. he really is going threw it at the moment. and he is still so very friendly! what a star!

Poor wee fella he is having it rough.
He may have an eye infection and need some eye drops or eye cream. In saying that though the eyes often get sticky as another symptom of being generally unwell. We normally bathe sticky eyes with simple cooled boiled water and a cotton ball. I would not use baby wipes in case the moisturising agents sting his eyes and cause them to get more irritated and sticky. If you would not put it in your eyes then don't use on a hamster. You can also get the eye drops called Maxitrol for humans at the chemist and a drop of these can moisten the eyes. They usually get sticky again overnight and it does tend to recur in older hammies. Is there yellowy gunk on the eyes? If so he likely needs drops from the vets. Try just water for a few days to see if they settle.

yeah they look a bit crusty. wil use cooled boiled water then. will c how he goes. may be back to the vets again. poor little chap!
