My old hamster never appeared to have any noticeable snot on her nose, but I noticed my newest ham did. I'm guessing this is normal, but I just want to make sure I catch anything wrong while he's still young. This is what I mean:
Sorry if that picture grossed anyone out! I know hamsters get colds sometimes, but I don't know how human-like their colds are!

Re: Is hamster snot normal?
No Bambi it is not normal for a hamster to have any nasal discharge. They are normally very fastidious about grooming and will never have this unless they feel unwell.
They can catch human colds and also get chest infections and allergies. Be sure not to use any sprays or room fresheners near the hamster and if you suspect allergy to bedding try something like carefresh or even ripped white loo roll.
If he has a cold he will need lots of warmth and care. He may need antibiotics from a vet if it goes on to his chest.
In saying this it does look slightly like he has scabs on his nose. Does he bar chew by any chance?
