help plz!

hi there. unfortunatly my first ever hamster passed away last night. she was roughly 2 years old and has been into hibernation twice in the past couple of months (probably due to cold weather in uk). i had successfully revived her from the 2 hibernation periods with the use of a towel and a heat mat used for vivariums.

woke up this morning to find her stiff and cold (just like when she hibernated before) but it seemed different this time. her mouth and eyes were slightly open, there was a big red lump around her vaginal area and her stomach had started to turn green. im assuming it was an infection and she couldnt handle it and gave up. after a quick search on the net i could not find any info on green stomachs etc so i would like to ask for the advice from the specialist forums so i could get some possbile answers on what happened to her.

I am sorry to hear of your loss. She was a good age for a hammy and you must have cared for her well and loved her lots.
The green colour you describe is just what happens after death really when the blood pools in the area and congeals and the food in the tummy starts to degenerate so I would not worry about that. She likely just slept away. Things just sort of settle when an animal dies so please dont dwell on these things.
I hope when the time is right you might choose to find a new little one to share your life.
