Default Excessive weeing and some blood

Hi all,

My hamster is now over 2 years old and over noticed over the last 6 months his slowly been drinking more and weeing more. I'd always put it down to him getting older and his kidney function not being as efficient. He now drinks a lot of water and as a result wees a heck of a lot. Last night my gf was handling him and after he'd left her hand the was a small trace of blood on her hand. When I looked at him it there was a small trace from his penis. It then stopped more or less straight away. I see no blood in his urine.

Other than this, and an existing problem he has with his bulgy eye, he is fine and likes to come out and about charging around like a looney and eats fine.

I'm about to speak to his vet, but I thought I'd try picking everyone else's brains for any advice/ideas beforehand.

Much Thanks.

I'm sorry to hear this about your hamster. Blood in the urine, and drinking more than usual water, could possibly be an urinary infection, or bladder infection. I'm glad you are taking him to the vets. Keep us posted.

His going to vet first thing in the morning.

It's possible that its an infection but I suspect, as much as I'm hoping it's not, that it is being caused by a tumor. He currently has a bulgy eye (it appeared back in June/July) which seems to affect his balance slightly which he compensates for by walking with one of his back paws out further than the other.

Turns out that thing under his eye is most likely a tumor as he has now develop a new growth on his neck too. He has been given some anti-biotics incase he has a bladder infection also.

He seems happy enough and is eating ok at the moment, but unfortunately its probably just a matter of time before he goes downhill.

Sorry to hear about the tumour, I hope the infection clears up ok if he does have one & he remains happy & comfortable for some time yet.
