Default Moody Hamster

I have a 7 month old Syrian hamster and recently she has been more hyperactive and has started biting. She has never done this before and she is very protective of one corner of her cage. She makes a nest in this corner but doesn't sleep in it. She doesn't seem to be herself and she seems in a 'mood' all of the time. Could this be something to do with her being on season? Or is she just having a bad hamster week?!

Any change in behavior such as this might indicate a health problem heather and it is good you noticed it. Give her a good allover check. Listen for clicky, wheezy breathing or pouch puffing which might indicate a cold or chest infection. Look for lumps and bumps and tender spots. Check teeth for broken ones, overgrown or pouch problems. Females are prone to womb infections. Is her tummy swollen and hard? Does she have a discharge or is she drinking a lot and weeing a lot? Does it smell bad. Is she loose or are poops normal? Look at eyes, ears & nose. It is unlikely to be her seasons as they come in every 4th night and are usually very hyper at this time though it does not affect their moods. If you find anything amiss or are just not happy I would book her in for a vet check.
Our hammies are sleeping more at the moment with the cold weather and falling light levels. Make sure she has lots of bedding to make a cozy nest and try and make sure she is exposed to some daylight even if she is sleeping they can still sense it.
I hope she is well soon.
