Hey was wondering if anyone had any advice please. My hamster is now over 2, and he seems to be weeing alot it fills most of the corner of the cage and his drink seems to go down more now to! I rung the vet and they said it could be diabetes as hes getting on or a tumour! Just wondered if anyone knows anything about this? Thanks
It could be either of those but it could also be due to old age. As hamsters age their kidney function is not great. I would just keep an eye on any changes in him.
I agree with Erin, what kind of ham is he? If he's a dwarf there's more risk of diabetes but if this has only begun to happen recently it's most likely old age & kidneys not working so well. You could test for diabetes or get the vet to check in case of any urinary infection to be on the safe side.
If he seems otherwise healthy maybe just keep an eye on him & see how he goes.
