Help! Upper respiratory infection!
My poor baby, Munchlax, has an upper respiratory infection. I've taken him to the vet and he's been put on antibiotics. After completing the antibiotics, he still sounds the same with the sneezing and squeaking. I'm not sure if I should take him to the vet again. He's been eating and drinking just fine and it seems like his behavior has been the same. The only change is his sneezing and squeaking.
When taken to the vet they said it didn't sound like anything was wrong with his heartbeat or lungs. And his movements are just fine.
Should I be worried?

Re: Help! Upper respiratory infection!
How old is your wee one?
We had respiratory problems with one of our hamsters, and she did not respond to medication. There was nothing wrong with her lungs or heart that our vet could hear, but she made weird "snuffling" noises.
You could try a different antibiotic perhaps? We also used this with ours: help for respiratory emergencies - Ailments & Injuries - Hamster Hideout Forum to try to help, as thyme has natural antibiotic properties.

Re: Help! Upper respiratory infection!
What kind of bedding is he on? Maybe he's having an allergic reaction to something?

Re: Help! Upper respiratory infection!
I would recommend a different vet/ requesting a different antibiotic. It is worth considering could anything in the cage be irritating his airways, as NiceCrocs said what type of bedding do you use? Some types can be too dusty to be tolerated by little lungs.

Re: Help! Upper respiratory infection!
My ham is a Campbell's and he's about a year and a half.
I've used the same kaytee clean and cozy bedding with him. Nothing there has changed.
I've gone to the vet a couple times. First time I got one type of antibiotic, he seemed to have his sneezing sound get worse. I went back and he was put on a different one and I used it completely. He still sounds the same as when he first started.
One thing I have noticed is that he has started sleeping under his water bottle. Could that be a factor?
