Default Tabitha and pyometra

I am not sure is if I have spelt it correctly, but we are going to the vets at 2.30. I am fairly sure that is what she has.

1. very bad smell. like a sweet rotten smell.

2. white discharge, came out on my hand when I held her yesterday the smell made me throw up.

I am gutted to be honest. She doesn't seem in pain and is eating and drinking normally. She is almost two - although its hard to tell since she is a rescue. She has had a rough life bless her.

I wish the vets was sooner tho. I hate waiting. feel so guilty.

xx

Oh dear that does sound as though she has some sort of pyometra type of infection.

I do hope the vet visit proved otherwise. best wishes xx

thanks, the vet was sort of positive. he said he didn't think it was pyometra cos her tummy isn't hard, and put her on baytril twice a day 0.05mls twice a day. it is an infection of something down below..........

I had to clean her out, vet said I was to clean her as well. I used only plastic toys (all cleaned in VERY hot water) but had to keep rearranging it, which in the end upset her and she is sleeping behind her wheel instead of in her house.

her cage looks rubbish too. she has a house, and two wheels. all my other toys are wooden and not dry yet.

is there any thing i can feed her to perk her up?

she was fine until I started messing around.

aww bless her, I am sure she is not cross at you rearranging her home, but more about all the prodding the vet was doing

How about making her some nice scrambled egg or porridge for a treat? Just a teaspoon or so - that's what mine get when I quickly need to say sorry to them And scout round the house for some easily disposable toys, the loo roll tubes, and empty cardboard boxes may just give her something to do until everything is nice and dry again.

I have a hamster who previously had pyometra and had a hysterectomy, and she keeps getting little infections down there too - so my little Princess is quite used to me coming towards her with a syringe of Baytril! She automatically now starts looking for the treat she insists on afterwards

Hope Tabitha soon feels like her old self.

thank you xx I did wonder about scrambled egg. Cos I could give some of it to the rats too. not that they have ever had it before. and it wouldn't hurt to give Willow some too.

Since she is sleeping int he corner with out any bedding would it be stupid of me to heat up my cozy thing and put it near the cage? I have no heating on in my room (radiator gone wrong) and it is warmed by the rest of the house. I just don't want her to be cold.

Sorry to hear Tabitha is poorly but she still sounds bright and is eating which is good. I expect she is feeling sorry for herself after her vet trip. I would not give her the wooden toys for now but stick to diposables like empty cardboard boxes with holes cut in them maybe a nice sweetcorn or nibble stick. Try and make sure she takes the baytril so it gets to work. You could give her a teaspoon of live yogurt to help her tummy while she is on antibiotics. I hope she gets well soon and graces your life with her presence for a lot longer. I think she will be OK at normal room temp as they can overheat unless she seems shakey or chilled. Try pileing in some bedding and hopefully she will take it in to her corner. Use a damp cotton ball to wipe her clean. Its not fun but she will appreciate being fresh and at least you will know she is not having to like the nasty stuff off herself to clean herself.

Yeah I was thinking about not giving her back her wooden toys. keep wondering about bacteria......

I have the second dose to give her tonight, and will give her wipe too

I have moved her cage too. so I can get to easily and now I have taken out the shelf I can see everything!

going to go with Scrambled eggs tonight.

thanks again xxxx

I hope she has a speedy recovery. I agree with you about the waiting. Waiting and not knowing are worst of all.

Tabs has eaten her Scrambled Egg and had three lots of meds. She scared me a bit today, cos i couldn't wake up her up but then she never wakes up in the morning. she seems very normal but the vet words are ringing in my ears, that it could over come her.

(on the yoghurt front we have strawberry Activa? is that any good? )
so we wait.

xxxxx
