Exclamation Lump on tummy. Not sure what it is

Hi, its me Hammyfan again,
So recently I have gotten a new hamster by the name of Pricilla and she is a Syrian, 8 months old, and I have only had her for about a month buuuuttt, I was doing her weekly health check and well, there was a pink lump about the size of a thumb fingernail, when I touched it she moved a little but not a lot, it is on the left middle of her tummy. She hasn't really been as up and about as she was before, she sleeps a lot more now, sometimes she doesn't get up till about 5 a.m when was when she normally when back to sleep. Before she would be up about 2-3 times in the day time to get food and water, but now not at all, and yes I know hamsters are nocturnal but she is normally a little more active. It doesn't seem to be affecting her running or walking. She isn't eating as much either. I recently (like yesterday) switched her food from Hazel hamster to National geographic Hamster and Gerbil Entrée. So since I changed it not too long ago I don't think that it the food, other than that nothing has changed in her habitat.
Many thanks if you can help,
Hammyfan126, and Pricilla

If it were Carmelita, I would call her vet, describe it, and ask if they want her to come in.

Best to get a photo of the lump Hammyfan. It will help us to see it. If you only just changed her food that won't be the cause. My hamsters change their hours around. Right now I have 2 daytime hamsters, as both Ted E. Bear and Nutmeg have been up all day long for the past week. Ted E. has always gone from being a daytime and then a night time hammy. I rather enjoy when they are up in the daytime. I get to play with them more. But sleeping all the time...She could be feeling a little unwell or the heat may be getting to her. Let's see a photo first though, okay?

Hi Hammyfan. Any suspicious lump that appears on a hamster should really be checked by a vet early on as medication can sometimes be given if it turns out to be an abscess or a cyst or if female, could be mastitis, which really needs attention. It depends what the lump is and whether it requires removing or just antibiotics. Some owners prefer to wait and see if the lump gets any bigger over a week and if it does, then I would certainly worry. Having said all the above, lumps that grow are usually tumours and if that`s the case, there isn`t a great deal that can be done unless removed early. x
