Comfort for the old?
Wallie (my hamster) was diagnosed with skin cancer today he is also blind... I was wondering if I could do anything to make him more comfortable? he lives in a 20 gal. long aquarium and he cannot have sand baths due to the open sores. Ideas?

Re: Comfort for the old?
Sorry, Poor Wallie. Favorite foods and cuddling/ petting is all I can think of. Being blind, you wouldn't want to change things around in the cage.

Re: Comfort for the old?
Really sorry to hear your sad news. I would only advise keeping things as they are, water (make sure the bottle or dish is low for Wallie to reach without stretching) and keep his nest area large so he doesn`t feel cramped. Otherwise there isn`t a great deal you can do except keep things simple for him and don`t do too many cage cleans, especially if he`s blind or not seeing well. he will instinctively know where he is and where his accessories are. x

Re: Comfort for the old?
I am so sorry this has happened to Wallie. As the others have already stated, keep his cage the same after each cage clean so he knows where things are. All you can do is keep him as comfortable as possible and love him to bits. See if the vet can give him pain meds to help keep him as comfortable as possible. {hugs} to you.

I'm so sorry to hear this about Willie. I agree with everyone, not to change his surroundings around, and give him his fav foods, treats.. he feels your love. blessings.
